When South Vietnam fell to the communist government in 1975, my parents made the courageous decision to leave everything behind to keep my sister and me safe. That choice changed the course of my life. Like so many other Vietnamese Boat People, my journey taught me resilience, grit, and the power of bold choices—values I now bring to every relationship, especially in helping my clients create wealth, security, and a place to call home.
I was born in Vietnam in the 1970s, during a time of war and upheaval. My father served in the Special Forces of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), fighting alongside U.S. forces. When South Vietnam fell to communist rule in 1975, families like mine faced an uncertain future.
By 1979, my parents, just 27 and 30 years old, made the unimaginable decision to flee with my sister and me—at just five and three years old. Fear of persecution and an uncertain future under communist rule left them no choice but to risk everything for our safety, freedom, and a life filled with opportunity.
We fled on an overcrowded fishing boat, spending seven days at sea, facing storms and the fear of pirates. After multiple failed attempts to land, we finally reached Malaysia, where we lived in a refugee camp. During that time, my mother became pregnant with my twin brothers. Eventually, we were granted resettlement in the United States, and on October 24, 1979, we arrived in America—marking the beginning of a new chapter.
I still vividly remember our first meal in America: a Burger King Whopper Jr. meal. After so much uncertainty, that burger tasted like comfort and possibility—my first bite into a new life. To this day, the Whopper Jr. remains one of my guilty pleasures.
My twin brothers were born in the U.S., a symbol of the fresh start my family had fought so hard for. But survival in a new country came with challenges. My parents worked tirelessly to rebuild our lives. My father worked full-time and, in his off-hours, started fixing cars in our garage to make extra money. That side gig grew, and he eventually opened a small auto repair shop in St. Paul’s Hamline Midway neighborhood in 1986—Tuan Auto Repair. Today, my brother owns and operates the business, serving third-generation customers.
Even as a child, I was captivated by homes and architecture, spending hours at the public library poring over floor plans, imagining the lives inside them. What started as real estate daydreaming turned into hands-on experience when my father began investing in real estate. Since he didn’t speak English well, I became his translator, his negotiator, and often, his way in the door—literally. He would send me ahead to knock on doors of homes he was interested in purchasing, making the first contact with homeowners on his behalf. I watched him navigate deals, inspections, and the unpredictable world of real estate, unknowingly absorbing the foundation of what would later become my career.

In 1990, we suffered a heartbreaking loss when one of my twin brothers passed away, fracturing our family in ways we never expected. Grief weighed heavily on us for years, and I coped the only way I knew how—by running from the pain. For a time, I lost myself, searching for something to fill the void. But God has a way of bringing us back to what we are meant for. In the process of finding my way again, I discovered the resilience, grit, and adaptability that would shape me into the woman I am today—one who understands struggle, transformation, and the power of creating stability in an ever-changing world.
I studied economics and political science at the University of Minnesota, later working in finance, banking, and wealth management. But in 2003, after becoming a mother, my career took an unexpected turn. My father was expanding his real estate investments, and I found myself drawn to the real estate industry. I earned my real estate license in 2004, specializing in new construction, development, and high-end properties.
Then came the Great Recession in 2008. Instead of stepping back, I stepped forward—partnering with investors, advising sellers on strategic exits, and working closely with nonprofit housing agencies to restore foreclosed homes. Whether it was repositioning distressed properties or securing the right buyer for a luxury estate, I came to understand that real estate isn’t just about transactions—it’s about transformation.
In 2021, my father passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Less than a year later, my sister ended her life—a loss that left me shattered and searching for answers. It was a painful reminder of how deeply unresolved trauma can take hold, and how many people carry burdens they feel they must bear alone. That realization ignited a new purpose within me—to create spaces of healing, where women can find refuge, process their pain, and move forward with hope.
This journey led me to support the development of a healing retreat for women, particularly those who have experienced deep trauma. Partnering with healers and entrepreneurs, I am creating a sanctuary for renewal, where women can reclaim their strength and step into the lives they were meant to live.
At the same time, my commitment to my community remains strong. As a member of the Rotary Club, I help raise funds for wellness programs that foster healing. Outside of work, I find joy in hiking, kayaking, traveling, live music, ballroom dancing, and time with loved ones.
Through it all, my parents’ choice to flee Vietnam didn’t just change my life—it shaped generations. Because of their courage to leave everything behind and literally, burn the boat, their grandchildren were born into a life of freedom. Today, four well-rounded grandchildren are growing up in a world of opportunity, a testament to the sacrifices made decades ago.
Looking back, my life has been shaped by resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering drive to overcome challenges. Today, I bring that same mindset to my clients—whether I’m helping a first-time homebuyer build generational wealth, guiding a seller to maximize their return, or advising an investor on portfolio expansion. No matter the goal, my approach remains the same—strategic, committed, and grounded in the belief that home is where success begins.
Real estate isn’t just about buying or selling—it’s about building a foundation for life. Whether you’re making your first purchase, selling a lifelong home, or investing in a growing portfolio, I understand that transitions can be overwhelming, and I’m committed to making the process as smooth and empowering as possible.
My approach is rooted in clear communication, personalized guidance, and a deep commitment to my clients’ success. Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer seeking security, a seller looking for the highest return, or an investor searching for the next opportunity, I tailor my strategy to your unique goals. By uncovering potential blind spots and providing strategic solutions, I help my clients make confident decisions that align with their long-term vision.
My journey has been one of resilience, transformation, and perseverance—qualities that define not just who I am, but how I serve my clients. I also want to give back and encourage other women to heal and thrive, especially refugee women. If I can come from where I started, with nothing, I can guide other women to heal and become who God created them to be.
I believe in the power of homeownership to transform lives, and I’m honored to help individuals and families build not just wealth, but a place where they feel safe, empowered, and at home.
Sincerely,

Sophia Pham
